RESULTS:

Championship Sunday Aug 8 - Another amazing day at PPA Takeya Showcase featuring four "best out of 5" GOLD medal matches on Center Court.

• Pro Women's Singles - Anna-Leigh Waters defeated Catherine Parenteau (11-3, 8-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-2).
• Pro Men's Singles - Ben Johns defeated Jay Devilliers (11-2, 9-11, 11-0, 11-9).
• Pro Women's Doubles - Simone Jardim & Lucy Kovalova defeated Irina Tereschenko & Callie Smith (11-7, 12-10, 14-12).
• Pro Men's Doubles - Ben Johns & Matt Wright defeated Tyson McGuffin & Riley Newman (10-12, 11-6, 11-2, 11-5).

In Sr. Pro:

• Sr. Pro Men's Singles - Paul Olin & Mattias Johansson defeated Paul Olin (11-8, 11-7, 11-7).
• Sr. Pro Women's Doubles - Nathalie Bagby & Beth Bellamy defeated Jen Dawson & Helen Wilhelm (8-11, 11-3, 12-10, 7-11, 11-5).
• Sr. Pro Men's Doubles - Dave "The Badger" Weinbach & Tao Thongvanh defeated Mills Miller & Jose Derisi (11-4, 11-3, 11-7).

SATURDAY (PRO) Aug 7 - What an incredible Pro Mixed Doubles GOLD match between Matt & Lucy vs. Ben & Simone... a 5-game nail-biter that lasted nearly 2 hours!  11-9, 3-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-5.  Rewatch this "instant classic" on PPA's YouTube channel (goes from about 3:18:00 - 5:08:00).

We also got to enjoy tons of great Pro Men's & Women's Doubles as well.  Matt & Ben beat Pat Smith & Jay Devilliers in the semi-finals to move on to Championship Sunday.  And Tyson & Riley overcame Adam Stone & Dekel Bar in their semi-final match.  Setting up the Newport re-match of Ben & Matt vs. Tyson & Riley.  Guaranteed fireworks!

In the BRONZE, Dekel & Adam beat Jay & Pat, 11-4, 11-4.

On the Pro Women's side, Lucy & Simone bested Leigh & Anna-Leigh Waters in the semis to reach GOLD match against Irina & Callie, who beat Jillian Braverman & Susannah Barr in their semi-final battle.

In the BRONZE, Leigh & Anna-Leigh beat Jillian & Susannah, 11-9, 11-8.

SATURDAY (Sr. PRO) - Congrats to the Sr. Pro Mixed medalists!  GOLD: Beth Bellamy & Rick Witsken. SILVER: Jennifer Dawson & Thunder Lopez. (Gold match was played on Center Court, and can be found here, starting at about 25:00.) BRONZE: Helen Wilhelm & Dayne Gingrich.

FRIDAY RESULTS (Pro Mixed Doubles; Sr. Pro Women's Doubles and Sr. Pro Men's Doubles) -- Several amazing matches, including both semi-finals – First, Ben Johns & Simone Jardim vs. Callie Smith & Steve Deakin went down to 12-10 in 3rd game with Ben & Simone moving on to the GOLD.

Similar exciting story in the other semi-final with Matt Wright & Lucy Kovalova vs. Catherine Parenteau & Riley Newman... Matt & Lucy grabbed a 13-11 win in the 3rd game.

Catherine & Riley faced Jay Devilliers & Michelle Esquivel in the BRONZE for yet another 3 game match. Catherine & Riley grabbed the BRONZE going 11-8, 6-11, 11-3.

In Sr. Pro Men's, Dayne Gingrich & Kevin Booth take the BRONZE, while Mills Miller & Jose Derisi will face Dave "The Badger" Weinbach & Tao Thongvanh in the GOLD.

In Sr. Pro Women's, Lisa Naumu & Jen Lassandro secure the BRONZE, while Jen Dawson & Helen Wilhelm get ready to take on Nathalie Bagby & Beth Bellamy in the GOLD.

THURSDAY (SINGLES) - Ben Johns vs. Jay Devillers, and Catherine Parenteau vs. Anna-Leigh Waters advance to the GOLD medal match.

In Pro Men's Bronze match, Dekel Bar defeats Gabriel Joseph (6-11,11-7,12-10).

In Pro Women's Bronze match, Lea Jansen defeats Annica Cooper (11-1,11-9).

In Sr. Pro Men's, Paul Olin & Mattias Johansson will square off in the GOLD.  And Jamil Atcha captured the bronze.

In Sr. Pro Women's, Nathalie Bagby wins Gold, Jen Lassandro wins Silver, and Brenda Tilford wins bronze.  Congrats to ALL!  Singles is rough.  :|

TIDBITS OF INTEREST (Written before the tournament began):

• This is a "Tier 1" PPA Tournament, which means a total payout of $90,000.
• Men's Pro Doubles features the return of Team Ben Johns & Matt Wright, a pairing we haven't seen in 2021. Ben & Matt lost to Tyson & Riley in an EPIC battle in the backdraw last year at this same tournament. So the seeding will be very interesting... will we see a rematch in 2021?
• Women's Pro Doubles will have a new-ish team pairing: instead of team Jessie Irvine & Irina Tereschenko and team Catherine Parenteau & Callie Smith that we've seen the past 6 months, the ladies are swapping partners, and instead we get to watch Catherine & Jessie, and Irina & Callie.
• Pro Mixed Doubles features a new pairing of Catherine Parenteau & Riley Newman.  Could this upset the Ben/Simone vs. Matt/Lucy power dynamic we've seen at the last few PPA tourneys?  
• Men's Pro Singles draw has 29 players, including many of the heavy favorites (Ben, Jay, Tyson).  I'm curious to see how deep 16 year old up-and-comer Hayden Patriquin goes.
